York County Tourism Development has received $20,000 from the Virginia Tourism Corporation’s (VTC) Recovery Marketing Leverage Program (RMLP). The grant is designed to help tourism entities in Virginia to attract more visitors by leveraging limited marketing dollars through a local match of state grants funds.

The funding will be used to continue to tell the story of Yorktown, with a goal of increasing awareness and visitation to the destination.  The funds will also support a targeted video campaign; increased digital and search advertising; targeted email campaigns; and a more prominent presence in the Virginia Travel Guide. All of the aforementioned initiatives will tie in with the Virginia is for Lovers brand campaigns.

“These funds give localities and businesses access to critical marketing resources that will help bring more travelers to our Commonwealth, increase visitor spending, and grow demand for Virginia products,”  said Governor Ralph Northam said in a statement about the grants.

According to the York County Tourism Development Manager  Kristi Olsen, the $20,000 grant was awarded because the county spent that amount in their marketing efforts already (the grant matches what the county has spent).

“Opportunities such as this from the VTC allow us to remain a relevant and desirable destination year-round in Virginia. It also helps us to continue to collaborate with local businesses, attractions, and community partners to create innovative campaigns to inspire people to come eat, stay, and play in our tip of the Historic Triangle,” Olsen said.

Most of the programs are in partnership with Virginia Tourism Corporation’s Brand Campaign.  The targeted digital ads and videos will promote visitation to Yorktown.  Targeted simply means they (VTC) put the message in front of super-targeted prospects.  This guarantees engagement, brand exposure and clicks to the website from visitors who are searching for experiences offered such as outdoor, culinary, events, museums, etc.

Some of the platforms used for the digital ads and videos might be viriginia.org but also Travel & Leisure, Southern Living, Food Network, etc.
