This travel credit card has many benefits — but changes are coming in 2023.

Key points

  • The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card is a popular travel rewards card.
  • In addition to perks like yearly travel credits and travel accident insurance, this card gives cardholders access to participating airport lounges.
  • Soon, non-lounge Priority Pass perks will no longer be available to cardholders.

The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card is a premium travel rewards credit card with fantastic benefits that are perfect for the frequent traveler. But some benefit changes are coming in the new year. This card will continue to offer airport lounge access. However, some Priority Pass perks are soon going away. Here’s what you need to know to prepare for your next trip.

Non-lounge Priority Pass experiences are no longer a perk

Those with a Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card can access Capital One airport lounges and participating partner airport lounges, including Priority Pass lounges and Plaza Premium Lounges. While these benefits won’t go away, cardholders should be aware that some additional Priority Pass perks will no longer be accessible beginning on Jan. 1.

So, what’s changing? Cardholders will no longer be able to take advantage of non-lounge Priority Pass experiences, like dining, retail, and spa services. After the new year, if there are no participating lounges at the airport you’re flying out of, you’ll need to find another way to spend your time waiting.

When an airport lounge is full, or there isn’t one available, some travelers with Priority Pass access can use the non-lounge benefits. This includes using dining credits to enjoy a meal or drink at participating airport restaurants and bars, getting discounts at participating retailers, and resting at eligible airport sleep suites. Unfortunately, these extra benefits will no longer be available to Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card users at the start of 2023.

This travel rewards card still has plenty of valuable perks

While this isn’t the most significant change in benefits, it’s news you should know. With this news in mind, you may wonder if this credit card is worthwhile to keep in your wallet. If you’re a frequent traveler, you’ll likely continue to get plenty of value from this card.

You can still access Capital One, Priority Pass, and Plaza Premium airport lounges. These lounges can offer a more relaxing and less stressful way to pass the time before boarding your flight, making this perk a huge win that can boost your mood on a long travel day.

But there’s more to love about this card. The $300 annual credit on travel booked through Capital One’s travel portal, generous rewards rates, no foreign transaction fees, travel accident insurance, and flexible award travel redemption options are features that may help you have a more enjoyable travel experience.

This card still has a lot to offer. If you’re using these other perks, and can continue to afford the $395 annual fee, you may want to hold on to it despite this change. If not, there are alternative travel rewards cards that may better suit your needs.

It’s good practice to review credit card perks regularly

Credit card issuers often make changes to their cards. The benefits offered when you first receive a card may not (and probably won’t) remain forever. Throughout the year, your card issuer may add new perks. It’s also possible that some features may go away.

Checking in on current perks is crucial if you want to get the most out of your card. It’s a good idea to regularly evaluate whether a rewards credit card still meets your needs or if it’s time to look elsewhere.
