Here’s how you can contribute to nonprofits that support the Black community and earn bonus miles on your donation.

Key points

  • Black History Month is a time to celebrate the Black community.
  • Find out how you can donate to organizations that support Black students and earn bonus United miles on your donation.

United, Chase, and Visa are teaming up to celebrate Black History Month with a promotion that encourages cardholders to donate to select charities. The highlighted nonprofits provide educational opportunities to Black students and support civil rights policies.

If you’re a United Visa cardholder who contributes to an eligible organization, you could earn 5 miles for every dollar you donate. Here’s what you need to know.

Give back during Black History Month

February is Black History Month. It’s the perfect time to acknowledge the achievements that African Americans have made and the struggles Black people have navigated throughout history and continue to face today. It’s also an excellent opportunity to give back to the Black community, and donating to organizations that make a difference is one way to do that.

United Visa cardholders who donate to select nonprofits will earn 5 miles for every dollar they donate, up to $1,000.

The 5 miles rewarded are the total miles that can be earned — so if you normally earn 1.5 miles on purchases made with your card, you’ll earn 5 miles in total for every dollar donated.

Donations made from Feb. 1 through March 15, 2022, qualify for the promotion — so there’s still plenty of time to give back.

Donations to the following organizations count toward this unique promotion:

  • The Thurgood Marshall College Fund: Supports students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities by providing scholarships, internships, and job opportunities.
  • The Leadership Conference Education Fund: Builds public support for policies that promote and protect civil rights.
  • The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund: Works to eliminate racial disparities and fights for racial justice.
  • United Negro College Fund: Helps underrepresented students through their journey toward becoming college graduates.

You’ll need to donate to one of the above organizations and use an eligible United credit card to earn bonus miles.

Donations made with these cards qualify:

There’s no need to opt in to earn miles. Use your card to donate, and you’ll earn the miles. The miles will be deposited into your MileagePlus account within eight weeks after you’ve donated.

This promotion is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the Black community and donate so these important organizations have the funding they need to do more. If you want to give back, you can learn more about each organization and its work.
