Chase has some of the best rewards credit cards of any card issuer. If you have one of them, you’ll need to know how to redeem points on a Chase credit card.
Your redemption options will depend on which Chase card you have. Here’s a complete look at the redemption process and which options will get you the most bang for your buck — or in this case, your Chase Ultimate Rewards points.
How to redeem points on a Chase credit card
All Chase rewards cards are part of its Ultimate Rewards program. You can redeem rewards points on a Chase credit card through the Ultimate Rewards site. Here’s how:
- Log in to your Chase account on the Ultimate Rewards site.
- If you have multiple Chase credit cards, choose the card with the points you want to redeem.
- Click the arrow next to the “Earn / Use” header to open its dropdown menu.
- Select the type of redemption you want and follow the rest of the steps.
The remainder of your redemption process will vary based on the option you chose. You can learn about the potential redemptions — and how much value they offer per Chase point — below.
Transfer to travel partners
Value:
- Varies from under $0.01 per point to over $0.03 per point
This redemption option is only available if you have a Chase travel credit card or the Chase Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card. Once you’ve chosen this option, select a travel partner, enter the number of points you want to send and your account information in that partner’s loyalty program, and confirm the transfer.
Chase has an extensive list of airline and hotel transfer partners. Here are the frequent flyer programs where you can transfer Chase points:
- Aer Lingus AerClub
- British Airways Executive Club
- Emirates Skywards
- Flying Blue AIR FRANCE KLM
- Iberia Plus
- JetBlue TrueBlue
- Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
- Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards
- United MileagePlus
- Virgin Atlantic Flying Club
And here are the hotel loyalty programs:
- IHG Rewards Club
- Marriott Bonvoy
- World of Hyatt
Transfers are one of the best ways to redeem points on a Chase credit card. If you can find a good award booking, it’s possible to get a very high value for your points.
Travel
Value:
With this option, you can search for and book travel through the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal.
Although all Chase rewards cards offer this, you get more value for your points with a Chase travel card.
Pay Yourself Back
Pay Yourself Back is a new way to redeem points on a Chase credit card. It lets you apply points as a statement credit toward eligible purchases from the last 90 days. The types of purchases that are eligible, the value you get for your points, and how long the feature is available depends on your Chase credit card.
Chase travel cards offer the same rate that you’d get on travel purchases booked through Ultimate Rewards. That’s $0.015 per point with the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and $0.0125 with the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card. Those cards offer the Pay Yourself Back feature through April 30, 2021, on the following eligible purchase types:
- Grocery stores
- Dining (including restaurants, takeout, and orders through eligible delivery services)
- Home improvement stores
- Contributions to select charitable organizations
The Chase Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card and the Chase Ink Plus® card offer $0.0125 per point through Dec. 31, 2021, on the following eligible purchase types:
- Select online advertising
- Shipping
- Contributions to select charitable organizations
All other Chase rewards cards offer $0.0125 per point only on contributions to select charitable organizations.
Chase Dining
Value:
- $0.015 per point with the Chase Sapphire Reserve®
- $0.0125 with the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or Chase Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card
- $0.01 per point with Chase cash back credit cards
These rates are available when you redeem points on a Chase credit card with Chase Dining through April 30, 2021.
Chase Dining has special dining offers you can purchase with your points. These include meals for delivery and pickup as well as outdoor seating reservations.
Gift cards
Value:
- $0.01 per point (or $0.011 per point when promotions are available)
Chase offers gift cards from a variety of merchants. Although you normally get the same value for your points as you would on cash back redemptions, you can get a bit extra on gift card promotions.
Cash back
Value:
The simplest way to redeem points on a Chase credit card is cash back. You can choose to get cash back as either a statement credit or a deposit to a bank account.
Experiences
Value:
This option is also only available if you have a Chase travel card or the Chase Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card. If so, you can search for and book available experiences.
Amazon
Value:
To redeem points on a Chase credit card at Amazon, sign in to your Amazon account and link your Chase card to it. After that, you can pay with points during checkout — albeit for a very low value per point.
Combining Chase points
If you have multiple Chase rewards cards, you can move points from one to the other. To do so, click “Combine points” in the list of options on the “Earn / Use” dropdown menu.
By combining points, you can open up more ways to redeem points on a Chase credit card or increase the value you’ll get from your points.
If you have a cash back card and a travel card with Chase, you can move your points to the travel card so you can transfer points to travel partners. And if you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve®, it makes sense to move your points to that card for redemptions where it offers a higher rate of $0.015 per point.
What’s the best way to redeem points on a Chase credit card?
All the ways to redeem points on a Chase credit card can seem overwhelming at first glance. It’s not as complicated as it looks.
If you only have a Chase cash back card, then cash back is usually the best choice. That’s the simplest option, and there aren’t any high-value alternatives. You could also consider gift cards if you find any promotions you like or Pay Yourself Back if you’ve made donations to any eligible charities in the last 90 days.
If you have a Chase travel card or the Chase Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card, check for transfer opportunities to travel partners first. These offer the most potential value. Other options that provide a good value per point are travel bookings through Ultimate Rewards, Pay Yourself Back, and Chase Dining.
The key to using Chase points is narrowing it down to a few high-value redemption options you like. That way, you don’t need to look through either option when you redeem points on a Chase credit card.
